[...] the sub has very weak base even after I moved it around to avoid standing waves as suggested in the manual. Borrowed a 7 yr old sub and placed it in the same spot and it was louder than this sub. I'm not one that needs a lot of base, but this was too weak. Finally pumped up the bass on my receiver and the Sony now outputs decent base.

I have this as the woofer of a 5.1 surround system. I have a Sony 7.1 receiver but do not have the rear 2 channels set up yet. I haven't had a woofer before but when I watch movies or play games I can certainly tell this puppy is there now. It doesn't rattle the windows or steal your breath but it adds a thickness to the present bass and increases the enjoyment of the experience. At the price this is a steal!
